Vegetable Gardens

For vegetable garden we suggest the following two options:
Option 1: Drip line with 1 GPH dripper every 18". This system can last for 7-10 years
Option 2: Drip tape with drippers every 12". This system can last for 3-5 years

Option 1: Using a drip line with PC dripper every 18"
Our suggestion is to use the 1/2" drip tubing as the main line and run the drip tubing perpendicular to the vegetable garden beds or rows. Near each row or bed of vegetable cut the 1/2" drip tubing and add a 1/2" tee. Into the tee connect the 1/2 drip line with 1 GPH drippers every 18" model B18100 and layout the drip line close to the row or at the center of the vegetable bed. After the installation is complete, turn the water supply on and flush the line, then use a hose end to close the end of the drip line and the drip tubing. Pressurize the system again and make sure that the system is working with water flowing from all the drippers along the drip line and you do not see any leak. This system can be use for a vegetable garden with any numbers of rows for a total flow rate of up to 220 GPH

If you have more then one bed spread around the garden you can control the flow on each bed by adding a ball valve. To the 1/2" tee connect a section of 1/2" drip tubing and run into the bed. Into the drip tubing connect the 1/2" ball valve and from the ball valve continue with the 1/2" drip line inside the bed and repeat for each additional bed.

See the list below with what we think are the best steps to help you to install this system. Please be aware that all installation applications are different. If you do not find the exact information that pertains to your application, send as an email with what you like to do for your particular situation. All our drip hoses and fittings are UV resistance, and are good for above the ground installation.

Parts suggestion:

  • Optional battery operated controller (low flow) model 9001D or 9001EZ. Connect to the faucet.
  • 3/4" FHT back flow device #10. Connect to the controller or if controller is not use connect to the faucet. The backflow protect the system from contaminated water re-entering the water supply.
  • 3/4" FHT screen filter with155 mesh #13. Connect the filter to the backflow device. The filter is use to protect the drippers from plugging. The filter screen needs to be removed for cleaning from time to time.
  • 3/4" FHT 25 PSI pressure regulator #4. Connect the pressure regulator to the filter.
  • 3/4" FHT swivel adaptor #18. Connect the swivel adaptor to the pressure regulator.
  • 50, 100, 200, or 500' 1/2" drip tubing model B35, B36, B39 or B37. Connect to the swivel adaptor and layout the drip tubing perpendicular to the vegetable garden beds or rows.
  • Tees 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" (if needed) #19. Used to split the 1/2" tubing if needed near each row or bed.
  • Ball valve #64. Add to each bed if needed to give you a complete control for each individual bed (optional).
  • 100' model B18100 drip line with 1 GPH dripper. Connect the drip line with dripper every 18" to the to the drip tubing using the tee and layout the drip line near the vegetable rows.
  • 1/2" coupling (if needed) #17. To connect two pieces of 1/2" drip tubing or drip line.
  • 1/2" hose ends #71 (pack of 1) and #55 (pack of 5). After you install the 1/2" drip line and the drip tubing, turn the water on and flush the line, then close the end of the 1/2" drip line, pressurize the system and make sure that the system have no leak.
  • 1/2" stake #60 (pack of 1). Use to hold the 1/2" drip tubing and drip line into the ground. Place as needed.
  • Plugs (if needed) #56 (pack of 10). If any holes on the 1/2" drip tubing or drip line you can use the plug to close the hole.

Option 2: Using a drip tape with dripper every 12"
This suggestion is for installing a drip system in a vegetable garden with any numbers of rows for a total flow rate of 220 GPH (same as with drip line)

The best way to install a drip tape for a vegetable garden, is using the drip tape with a 1/2" drip tubing as the main line. The drip tape is thin wall drip line with drippers every 12" with a flow rate of 80 GPH per 100'. The best installation method is to use the 1/2" drip tubing as the main line perpendicular to the vegetable rows. Near each row connect the drip tape to the drip tubing using the drip tape reducer connector. If the bed has more then one vegetable row with spacing between the row of more then 10", then install the drip tape between two rows. You can use the drip tape above or below the ground with up to 10 rows, each 30' long

Parts needed:

  • Optional battery operated controller (low flow) model 9001D or 9001EZ. Connect to the faucet.

  • 3/4" FHT back flow device #10. Connect to the controller or if controller is not use connect to the faucet.

  • 3/4" FHT screen filter with155 mesh #13. Connect the filter to the backflow device.

  • 3/4" FHT 25 PSI pressure regulator #4. Connect the pressure regulator to the filter.

  • 3/4" FHT swivel adaptor #18. Connect the swivel adaptor to the pressure regulator.

  • Tees 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" (if needed) #19. Used to split the 1/2" tubing if needed near each bed.

  • Near each row punch a hole in the 1/2" drip tubing and insert a drip reducer connector #29 (pack of 2), to the adaptor connect the drip tape and run along the each bed.
  • Drip tape model ST100R or drip kit model ST100 with 100' of drip tape. Connect the drip tape to the to the drip tape connector and layout the drip tape near the vegetable rows. After you install the drip tape, turn the water on and flush the line.

  • Close the end of the drip tape using drip tape end #28 (pack of 2). Close the end using the connector, pressurize the system and make sure that the system working to your satisfaction and the system has no leak.

  • Punch #51 or #52 (pack of 1). Use the punch to punch the holes in the drip tubing for insertion of the connectors.

Turn the system every day for about .45 minutes to 1 hours depending on your location and the soil type. After a week check the soil, the health of the plants, and adjust the watering time as needed.
